I want to replace my ancient Alcatel Speedtouch 510 4 port router[1] and
this unit (D-Link DSL-604+) has got me interested for a few reasons. It
plugs straight into the DSL line, it serves four wire-networked computers
out of the box, *plus* it has wireless capability too. At approx £116
(inc. VAT) that seems quite a bargain.
However, an ADSLGuide review suggests disconnection & range problems with
the wireless feature, not to mention the inability to turn the wireless
feature off manually. I'm just wondering if there's anything in this price
range that does the same job but is more adequate in these areas. The
wireless range bothers me because I'm in rather a large house with quite a
large garden, and I'd like wi-fi to cover as much of that space as possible
- without breaking the bank.
I only use Gentoo Linux (desktops & laptops) btw, so any router *must* be OS
independent - even to setup.
[1] Before I'm told to get an access point, I really want to replace this
with another router because (i) Alcatel haven't supported it for ages and
(ii) it has too many limitations.
