D-link drives me crazy - I'm pulling my hair out. Please help....

My router is driving me crazy. It worked fine all day long. Then I went out
for a walk, and when I came back after about one hour, nothing worked
anymore...

My LAN connection says "Limited or no connectivity" -
I try "Repair" and it says "unable...",
When I try to use the connection it is stuck on "Acquiring IP address",
I try to re-configure my router and I cannot because I have no connection to
the router and my IE based conf. utility cannot access the router - it says
"This page is unavailable off-line" - if I say Connect, of course, it says
404, and if I work off-line there's no way I can send my settings to the
router.
I rebooted the computer several times.
I rebooted the router (by unplugging it).
I reset the router (with a paper-clip).
I reset the DSL modem...
I called the DSL company and they said that they see my router connected to
the internet.
I checked and re-checked the cables.
I took down all firewalls.
I scanned the computer for virsues - clean.

Nothing worked....

Setup - winxp pro sp2
DSL (PPPoE dynamic)
D-link DI-524 router.

What's even more intriguing is that it worked fine all day... Now I took it
out, and, sure enough, I connect to the internet just fine.

Please help me with some ideas, 'cause I don't know what to do anymore.
Where should I look ?

Thanks, Alex

PS. I'm a Canadian. It seems that D-link sees Canadians as third-class
citizens - we don't have any support on weekends whatsoever (and during the
week, only between 9AM and 9PM), whereas the Americans have it 24/7. I love
this company !

Whats you firewall up to while this is going on??
If you have no connection to the router and the router is on....its not the
router
the message is not getting there...so either firewall or network card

Peter, no, it's not the firewall - I took it down BEFORE trying all the
above.

PS. All the lights on both my router & my modem seem to be just fine.

Also, I'd like to specify that wireless is disabled, and the router is
wired to my computer.

Some more specifications:

a) I installed the router yesterday - I just bought it this week. It's
brand
new, latest firmware.
b) No power problems while I was out.
c) Everything is powered thru a UPS.

The build in Firewall has a variety of settings. One specifally for
ZoneAlarm...do you use ZoneAlarm??
Try connecting the router again and this time try going into the setup pages
right away and configure the firewall.

In DLink web config try selecting WAN - PPPoE - always on
It has choices "always on - manual - connect on demand" (at least, the DI604
has)
It disconnects if no activity when "connect on demand", might have troubles
reconnecting

Thank you.... I finally solved it last night...

I had the following idea - if it was stuck on "acquiring IP address",
then maybe the DHCP did not renew the lease, and maybe the lease
expired as I was out for the two hours (it was a Saturday, so maybe it
took some time off !). So because the router is 192.168.0.1, I setup my
address as 198.162.0.2, static, and then I connected to the router. I
checked the DHCP panel and, sure enough, it was set to disabled (!!!!).
I set it back to enabled, I re-set the lease to 1 week, I rebooted
everything, and then I reset my computer to dynamic IP again. I
rebooted once again, and now it's fine.

Alex
