D-Link configuration utility not saving settings

I have a D-Link DI-624 (Rev. C) router with a DWL-G650 (Rev. B1) wireless
card for my laptop. I'm using driver version 2.36 and have the card and
router configured to use WPA-PSK authentication. The problem is that every
time I restart my laptop, the configuration settings for the G650 card get
set back to WPA, not WPA-PSK. As a result I have to manually go into the
configuration utilility and reset it to WPA-PSK and click Apply. After
that, it reaquires the connection and everything is fine.

Anyone else have an issue like this with a D-Link product? How do you solve
it? D-Link's tech. support department is useless.

You can set the parameters manually by selecting the card properties in
device manager, Advanced Tab.

These settings are for the card itself, not the D-Link software. They have
nothing to do with setting the encryption/authentication. It seems that the
D-Link software itself is buggy...

There could be two reasons for the failure to save the settings. First,
the PC-Card does not support WPA-PSK or Windows is managing the
connection and the configuration utility is inoperative. I repeat my
original suggestion that you access the card properties in device
manager and verify that the choice of encryption is not in a dropdown
selection. It is on virtually every PC-Card wireless I have dealt with.
If it is not there, disable windows management and look again. The
configuration utility is nothing more than an interface to these
properties.

I have the same combo with the PC-Card on a Win2K system. The
encryption option is NOT in the advanced tab of the Device Manager and
I have to manually select WPA-PSK every time I need to reconnect
(usually only when I bootup, but occassionally I'll have to reboot the
router which forces a reconnect).

I usually select the "Site Survey" link, double-click the connection
with this SSID, select the WPA-PSK check box and then it connects
fine. Would be nice if you didn't have to do this everytime but I
suspect that D-Link forces you to do this by design.

Very strange if by design. Was this card updated with firmware to WPA?
That might be the reason for the kludge in the setup and the firmware is
indeed accessing encryption through software by the driver. Does this
mean that the setting to allow Windows to manage the connection does not
work with this card?
