HELP!
Any suggestions welcomed, especially if you have experienced something
similar.

Thanks.

- Manbo

Scenario:
I have tried to make my two D-link access points work as wireless
bridges, but because they are different models, I don't believe this
is supported.
The two access points are a DWL-900AP+ and a DWL-2000AP
I currently have the DWL-2000AP as an access point and the DWL-900AP+
as a wireless client, allowing my computers to connect via my
DWL-900AP+ to the DWL-2000AP and then through my gateway.

The problem:
I have noticed on the logs of both devices that they seem to
disconnect and reconnect to each other. 80% of the time, or more, this
is not a problem. However, I have had to reconnect my DWL-900AP+
client to the network broadcasted by the DWL2000AP a number of times
(sometimes once a day). As I have mentioned, I am not sure if it is
related to the disconnections logged on the devices.

Attempted resolutions:
I have tried removing WEP authentication (on both devices)- this did
not make any changes.
I have disabled MAC filtering - this did not make any changes.
I changed the beacon intervals on the two devices - this did not seem
to make any obvious change.
I have changed the channels that my wireless network uses - this did
not make any change.

Here are extracts from the logs for your analysis, each headed by the
device name:

DWL-900AP+
http://support.dlink.com/techtool/DW...v_perform.html
1. Disable the 4X mode.
2. Reduce the "TX Rates" from 1-22Mbits/sec to 1-11Mbits/sec.

DWL-2000AP
http://support.dlink.com/TechTool/DW...v_perform.html
1. Do NOT enable the 802.11g only mode.
2. Try changing the TX Rate from "Auto" to 5.5 or 11Mbits/sec. Do
NOT select any of the 802.11g speeds. I've found that I sometimes get
disconnects when the AP changes speed due to interference.

Also, check that you did not exclude / you did include your AP's mac
adresses in the appropriate filters...

Thanks for your suggestions, guys.

I just wanted to let you know that I tried them all, and even moved my
access point (2000AP) to another room to see if it was interference
causing the problem (its normally next to my DECT phone, TV and Hi Fi)
but I got the same results, with the disconnections at about 3 minute
intervals.

Strange one, huh?
