I have a problem that's been puzzling me for a while but I've not ben able to
figure out a permanent solution. Hopefully someone here will have the solution
and be kind enough to help.
Here is the set-up. DSL service from MCI. D-Link 614+ AP with 2 'puter
hardwired via ethernet and 3 set up for wireless.
Of the two hardwired one, (mine) is a Macintosh G-4 QuickSilver 2002 with OS
10.3.2/768 mb ram/933 mhz. The other (my wife's) is a Dell Demension 2350 with
XP Professional/512 mb ram/ 2Ghz. Both have the latest patches.
The wireless puters are all Macintosh. 2 iMacs 333 mhz, one with 196 mb ram the
other with 320 mb ram both running OS 10.2.8. The last one is a Mac laptop
"Lombard" 400 mhz, 320 mb ram, OS 10.3.2.
The AP has the latest firmware the wireless puters all have the most recent
drivers.
Here is the problem: Almost with out fail when we fire up any of the computers
using the DWL-122 and want to access the AP the IP address is wrong. If you
monkey with the settings enough it will finally assign the correct IP.
After that everything works smoothly for about 5 to 10 minutes than with no
warning we lose internet access. When you check the wireless setting I find
the IP address has reverted to the orginal wrong setting (169. something). The
only way I've been able to get the wireless portion working again is to restart
the 'puter, monkey with the network settings in the system preferences panel,
forcing it to assign the correct IP. Then the whole cycle starts again.
I'm hoping it's something simple I'm just not considering. TIA for any help.
