used as an Access Point. ANy info. is helpful. Thank you.

What? That is a 614+'s primary function. Are you sure you've got the
correct model number?

You can ... but I wouldn't. Get another AP.
I have used a 614+ in this manner previously ...

- connected the switch to my existing switch and ignored the WAN port to
use it just as an access point.

This worked OK except I noticed -
- throughput was slightly slower than going though the WAN port.
- the unit would occasionally forget it wasn't supposed to do DHCP (as
this had been turned off) and give out unwanted IP, default gateway, DNS
information.
- it wouldn't allow me to access it for admin purposes ??!?

I did notice however if I connected the 614+ WAN port to my existing
switch and let it pull an IP from the main router that it worked pretty
good.

- I could get to it for admin through the WAN (you have to turn this on
in the admin screens)
- It could give out it's own IP addresses.
- It provided a natural firewall between the wireless clients that came
in via the 614+ and everyone on the regular network (NAT behind NAT
etc).

Anyhow ... if you don't really need the "router" functions of the 614+
then IMHO ... I would use an AP .. get another 900/800+ and spare
yourself some of the unique quirks of the 614+ AP only arrangement.

Besides ... the 900+ gives you great dropped packet statistics etc ..
which you don't get with the 614+ and the 900+ will even do a site
survey. I have found both capabilities very handy for maintenance
purposes and missed having them when attempting to integrate the 614+
for AP only service.

I admit that it is entirely possible that any of the quirks "I" noticed
when attempting to use the 614+ in this manner may have been unique to
my unit and/or my configuration. The unit I am using acts "strange" in
other ways at times .. It is marked HW version "A2" and has two antenna
w/ the latest 2.18 firmware (the latest "B" hardware version only has
one antenna).

IMHO as always ...

I use the B version (single antenna) of the DI-614+. As a wireless AP the
unit works great with my desktop and laptop, both which use a D-Link
recevier (USB for the desktop, PC card for the laptop. It also works great
with my wifi capable Palm Tungsten C.
