Hi all

I recently purchased a DLink 604+ Router/ADSL Modem/Firewall/Switch
device and have had nothing but problems with it.

Sending a file using MSN Messenger 6 causes the router to hang. So I
updated the firmware to the latest UK release from the uk dlink ftp
site.

The router worked fine for the next 2 days then suddenly it stopped
broadcasting the wireless connection.

If I go into the configuration screem and click the Wireless Option
under Configuration (near the bottom) the router seems to lock up. I
can still ping the device but any attempt to access the router pages
causes a DNS Server not found error. Pulling the plug out on the
router, leaving ot off for 10 mins and plugging it back in allows me
to get back to the configuration page but again the router will just
lock up when I attempt to click on the Wireless Configuration link.

This all happened after I updated the firmware so I try and but the
original firmware back on, which installs fine but the router still
hangs on clicking the wireless configuration link.

Performing a factory reset doesnt fix the issue either.

Talking to DLink Tech Support didn't resolve the issue either.

Has anybody got any ideas? Iv'e only had this product 10 days and its
causing me much stress. I dont think there are any other products on
the market that have an ADSL modem, Wireless, Firewall and 4 Port
switch all in the single product.

As for the D Link Wireless USB adapter, it says on the box that it
supports Win98 SE but only includes drivers for XP on the CD, the
installation instructions are only for XP too. And if you try the
device in an Apple Mac then the whole machine locks up at boot. My
advice is avoid that product.

Obviously this is causing me a load of problems in a shared uni house
as I gave the other students a taste of the internet only to have it
removed a few days later.

Totally depressed !!!

Anim
PS. The wired connection on the Router works ok all the time.

Just a bad experience with tehchnology as most of us have experienced or may
experience some day. This doesn't mean this unit or manufacturer must be
avoided.

Your unit may be defective, have you considerer this fact?

When I have such experience, when I can't make it works and I suspect it
could be defective, I returned the unit (check store policies) to be
exchanged with another one and start over again. If it still fails, then it
is most probably some configuration issue, not the unit unless very bad luck
or I can't figure out this. Documentation is often weak with WiFi products.

Hi Len;
I believe the 604+ is only marketed outside the US. You have to check Dlink
UK for example to find it.
