D-Link 514 vs. 614+ routers?

Is there any meaningful difference between these two routers? A B--t Buy
salesperson told me they stopped selling the 614 because of reliability
problems. And the D-Link site says there have "numerous" revisions in the
514's manuals and firmware. Or should I just forget D-Link and go to a
LinkSys router?

The 614+ can connect at 22 mbps using a compatible Airplus 802.11.b
card. 514 is 11 mbps.

I have a DWL-614+ It works fine. When I first got it, the first few
months were heavy rain season. I thought the power supply didnt like
power fluxes as during the heavy rain months I had to reboot the thing a
once every so often after a rain storm. I have considered getting a
second ups just for the wireless ap, maybe a little office one that
handles 6 min battery assist. I dont want to add anything else to my
server's ups as I havent taken the time to set the power shutdown scripts
on the linux box yet and need as much time as possible to shut it down
manually when power does go out. If it goes out.

Now my only trouble is my brother talking on the 2.4ghz cordless phone and
trying to use the laptop on the wireless. He gets no connection on the
laptop and brings it to my room to gripe about it all the while talking on
the cordless phone. I look at the laptop and then notice what phone he's
holding and tell him to hit the channel select button and viola.. the
laptop connects. The dern cordless phone selects a clear channel every
time it gets turned on. It doesnt know the wireless network is using
whatever channel especially when its idling with no broadcasts.

From what I've read, microwave ovens can have a similar effect.

Do you have to use the Airplus card for that to happen? Looks like any
802.11b card would work just as well.
Since my cable modem will never run at even 11mbps, what advantage would
there be if I only use the wireless laptop setup for connecting to the
internet?
Also: if I hard-wire my two desktops to the router, can I assume that I
won't notice any slowdown in their operation no matter what I'm doing?

The 22mbps in the AirPlus line is proprietary to D-Link so you have to
use D-Link's Airplus products. I you are only using this for
downloading from the Internet then you will see no benefit, but if you
have multiple computers and transfer large files like MP3 etc then you
will see the benefit.

Many thanx for verifying what I thought was true. (I bought a 514 that was
on sale, probably because no one wants 'em anymore.) My two desktops will be
hard-wired and only the laptop will be "wireless". I play around a lot with
graphics and mp3 files but only on the two desktops.
