These apparently similar ADSL modems are actually very different.

The first one does the PPP login to the ISP, but not a lot more.

The 2nd one sounds like a 1-port NAT router, with DHCP

http://www.magwag.plus.com/jim/tips-300t.html

I've just ordered one of these and got the later model. It probably
works just fine for most people, because the DHCP stuff is just
another layer of DHCP which doesn't get noticed, and NAT is also OK
because most people use them in simple home systems where there are no
incoming connections (e.g. no www server running behind it).

How can I make the T look like a G+ ?

The dlink 300t is a horrible box. It runs Linux so I ended up dumping the
web-based config and doing the following:

- add default route for ppp0 (for some bizzare reason it doesn't get
created)
- add route to my entire block of IP's (assigned by Zen) to br0 (bridge
device)
- add static arp entries for all IP's - flush the firewall rules

I doubt the box even works in the simple scenario, but with a bit of force
it can be made to do what you need.

I'm sorry you ended up with this badly implemented rout^H^H^H^Hmodem.

Do you know how do do the above? Does one telnet into 192.168.0.1
using the default admin/admin and types in the commands? Is there a
command reference somewhere?

I am getting a single fixed IP from the ISP (DHCP but it will always
dish out the same IP) and need to open mine up for the usual outgoing
stuff (should be open to *all* outgoing stuff, surely?) plus a VPN
running between two Draytek 2900Gi routers.

I do know someone who knows unix...

Telnet with root/admin as username/password.

iptables --flush will clear the firewall
route add default ppp0 needed on mine
ip route <static-ip> br0

That should be enough to clear the retarded parts of the Dlink.
