Hi All,

I'm a bit stuck at the moment, i'm trying to find out if I was to buy a
ADSL modem in the UK if it would work in Czech Republic.

The reason being is that a friend is moving over there and I wanted to
configure it all up so that all he needs to do is plug it in his end and
WiFi etc will be working properly.

Any ideas where I can find such information?

Shane

Unfortunately I can't read Czech, and the word files at the bottom of the
page are password protected.

Does anyone know if I could buy a UK ADSL modem, and perhaps change the
telephone cable / add an adaptor to make it compatiable with Czech telecoms?

Well......... Since all ADSL modems seem to have a US-style phone plug on them,
it shouldn't be too tricky to find the appropriate lead I'd have thought.

The ADSL standard is international btw afaik.

Why not telephone the Czech republic Embassy in London and ask them?....they
may know a Czech resident in the UK who is familiar with ADSL back home and
can advise you....

Thanks - Appreciated... I guess I could take a cable off a normal telephone
and see if that will work. Its a bit difficult as I'm trying to set it all
up remotely

Are you familiar with the standard phone plug in use in the Czech Republic ? You
might be able to get one from a specialist.

And you'll need a 'power brick' with the appropriate mains plug of course.

What i might do is see if i can get a free/cheap usb modem with the deal,
then use that cable to be plugged into the back of an ADSL router. As i'm
doing it all remotely I want to make sure it all goes smoothly. Just giving
the modem with wifi sorted out to my friend who is going to just plug it in
and type in username/password.

Will get a power converter too!

Thanks

Shane

Some of the pdfs are in English. They reference the
international standards.

Of course, the property could be on cable ....
I guess it would then just be an Ethernet set-up.

You can get Czech-RJ11 adaptors e.g.
Reveal Ltd. Country Adapters
http://www.revealcable.co.uk/acatalo..._Adapters.html
This one seems to have a detachable UK adaptor. I don't
know what the filtering arrangements would be.

BTW, wouldn't WiFi need a Router rather than a modem? Or
were you just looking for an Ethernet-ADSL modem?

They are only password protected for modification. They can be
read without a password.

I've had a quick look, and *if* the provider mentioned is the one
your friend will be using one of the main changes you need to make is
to set VPI=8, VCI=48 (if I have read the docs correctly!).

Regards,
Harry.
