I'm interested in building a Linux based custom wireless access point
but with a twist from the usual approach of relying on the 802.11 card
to handle the MAC layer and WAP functions. I'd like to put the
802.11b
card into promiscuous (monitor) mode on a single channel and let the
host processor (Linux apps) perform the MAC layer and WAP association
and communication functions.
I know (from using kismet) that I can get the raw frames from
clients looking for my WAP and I was wondering if I could then
use the same card to respond to those clients (meaning can I
quickly receive on a single channel, process, and then transmit
out the same card or would I need to have two 802.11 cards, one for
receive-only and one for transmit)?
I'm probably phrasing all of this incorrectly but hopefully
I'm getting the point across.
If you happen to know if this is doable or not please post
and let me know.
tks
