CROSSOVER WIRING

Our telephone/data vendor added some data jacks to our existing patch
panel. It appears that the connector in the remote location was wired
as a crossover cable, and a crossover cable is required from the patch
panel to the switch, rather than 2 straight through cables (switch to
patch panel and wall (in room) to computer. Is this a new standard, or
is this the new type of RJ45 jacks that are being used, as I assume they
are matching the color codes on the wall RJ-45?
