Trying to create a wireless network between a system running XP Home SP1 and
a laptop running XP Professional with no service packs - through a Netgear
router, both systems run Norton Internet Security 2005.

Both systems setup but the desktop pc cannot see the laptop in mshome or
explorer, laptop can see the desktop system and files can be transferred from
the laptop.

As a first step I would recommend installing Service Pack 2 on both machines
as well as all the latest hotfixes (www.windowsupdate.com), as XP SP2 has
improved wireless support (not to mention a multitude of security
improvements).

All the best,

Ryan is correct, SP2 and the most up-to-date patches are a must - especially
for wireless.

You might want to take a look at the tech articles at:

http://www.itcsg.com/Tech/Tech.shtml

There is some good information there on setting up a wireless network and on
troubleshooting problems.

Hi

If both computers can use the Internet then your problem is not the Wireless
but the sharing settings.

May be this can Help, http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html

Sounds like it could be a firewall issue.
Trying disabling Norton Internet Security on both the Notebook and the PC.
Then try again.

If you get a connection between both PC's then you will need to go through
the NETWORK WIZARD in Norton Internet Security to configure the network for
access.

Hope this helps.
