Creating split-scope DHCP from a running DHCP server...

Hi!

I'm actually in a process of creating a split-scope DHCP environment (1 new
server acting as DHCP server) from a running single DHCP server which,
support ALL DHCP requests, reservations...

What I would like to know, it is, does I forgot something (before activating
my new server)?

VoilÃ* the steps I did:

1) Install and start DHCP service on new server
2) Export DHCP database from the actual DHCP server
3) Import DHCP database onto the new DHCP server
4) Create scopes exclusions on both servers (1 to 127 on first & 128 to 255
on the other)

Ready to authorizes new server and activate all scopes, BUT before, would
like to know what will happens with address leases which are from the first
server, and now, are in the new exclusions range and should now be leased by
the second server???

Thanks.

That is correct. The "50/50 split" is what I like, and use.

It will be fine. The only time there can be a problem is if both DHCP's have
the abiltiy to give out the same IP# if the Exclusions were done in error.
But as long as you configured them right,...you are fine.

Thanks for reassuring me...

But, what about all the leases in the Address Leases under scopes, since
they are from an export/import on the second server, does they will be
cleaned up gradually or they will be kept on both server?

They'll clean up when they expire. The server can not give out an IP that
it does not have available to give, so the client will get a new one.
