how to create LAN in my home pc

i have one pc with win98 and another 4 pc with win XP all is LAN connected to
use the broadband internet connection can someone list down the step-by-step
what step should do the create the LAN so that my win 98 pc can connected to
the broadband internet connection and LAN as well.

Hi Richard,

i know i can follow the step in the websites to create the LAN but one thing
i want to know is that what IP address and subnet mask address should i put
is it we need to check the others win XP machine IP address and subnet mask
address then we follow the address or how?or just type 192.168..1.1? or other
IP address please help!!

I'm sorry, I'm not quite sure how to answer this. If you have a router or
other such network device on your network already then you don't need to
configure IP addresses or other details on the "new" computer, as it will
get what it needs from the router. If you don't then you'll need to
configure the "new" computer in a similar manner to the "old" computers on
the network.

All you need is a router. Recommended you get one with NAT. Also, make
sure it's a wired router....if wireless, make sure it has encryption other
then WEP.

Hi Richard,
i already successful configure my win98 LAN and connected through the
network,i have another question to ask is that i notice that all of the
machine LAN connected the workgroup name is different is that ok.

For convenience sake the workgroup names should be the same (makes it easier
to browse the network) but this is not necessary.
