Hello,

I have a newly installed windows 2003 SBS server on a small LAN with only 8
or so client PCs. I am experiencing 2 problems:

1. Every now and then the internet and email connection goes down briefly
for any given one of the client PC's, but not any of the others. Then after
about a minute the conneciton comes back. This is happening with all of the
clients, but only one at a time if ya know what I mean, and intermittently
throughout the day. During this internet loss, the client PC's LAN
connectivity is fine, and they can access files on the server.

2. For two of the PC's on my network (so far), I have had the client
suddenly lose not only network connectivity, but also LAN connectivity
completely, and when this happened the first time I did a system restore and
everything seemed to work fine. Then it happened a second time (to the same
2 PC's), and now when I do the system restore, it doesn't help. The two
systems are currently unable to access the network or the internet, and they
can't ping the server.

I have the network setup in the following way: I have a linksys router
connected to my DSL modem, and my win2k3 SBS is connected to that, then I
have a second network card in my server connected to a hub, and all of the
other computers are connected to this hub as well. My server and the other
computers are all connected to this hub via a patch panel (the server is also
connected to the router via the patch panel).

I'm desperate and at the end of my rope so, any help/leads will be greatly
appreciated, and I will even cook you some Indian food if you ever visit
Boston!

Thanks,
Neraj

Hi,
First of all, is this managed linksys router? if so conect your dsl to
linksys WAN port , if linksys has DHCP functionality disable it, assign
static IP to you lan port on linksys (192.168.x.x which you then should use
in your DHCP on SBS as default gateway) connect router to hub and all of your
clients and server to hub, in SBS configure DNS with forwarders and DHCP
scope to assign IP addresses, dns IP, and defaulf gateway to all your clients,
servers static

this should do it..

Sounds like it is all connected properly to me. Off the top of my head, I
would say to disable the "power saver" features on the NICs of all the
machines.

Right-Click Network Places ---> Properties
Right-Click Local Area Connetion ---> Properties
Click the "Configure" button for the Adapter
Select the Power Management Tab,...uncheck both options to disable them.

"(the server is also connected to the router via the patch panel)."

I take it that you mean that the SBS server's 'second NIC' is connected to
the HUB through the patch panel. And the server's other NIC is connected to
the ROUTER in some other fashion? If not, please explain this configuration
in more detail.
