I had a working 2 computer home network which worked fine. Following a
virus attack I am trying, without success to get it going again.

Set-up:

Internet cable modem attached to 4 port router.

From router RJ45 cables to a PC (Win 98SE) and laptop (XP)..

Printer attached to PC.

I am now able to access the Internet from both computers, but cannot get the
computers to see each other and share printer, which they did before.

This is what I have done:
I used the Assistant in the XP to configure the network, chosing Local
Gateway as method of connection.
I had a diskette configured in the Xp which I took to the PC
Again I chose Local Gateway method there.

However, after restarting and continuing the configuration the PC hangs when
it says it might take a few minutes.

What have I done wrong?

Help...

qim

Hello Carey

Thanks. I have had a look already at that site.

problem is my Xp is in Portuguese and it becomes difficult to folllow your
instructions.

My guess now is that I should have changed the names of the computers before
trying a second setup.

And my doubt is whether changing the name in the Assistant is enough or if
you need to change the name in the system.

can you help?

Thanks

qim

I'm sorry, but I don't know how to communicate in Portuguese.

I wouldn't even begin to answer your question now! Figure it out
yourself.
