Could not connect all network drives

Yesterday, a user was using his laptop at work. Before he shut down his
laptop, he pulled out his network connection (Ethernet) and then proceeded
to shut down (he said he was doing too many things at once and he plugged
out the connection before he shut down). He tried to log back on afterwards
and it looked like the server authenticated him but during the boot process,
I get the message "could not connect to all network drives". I go to my
network places and when I click on the Windows Network Icon, I get the error
message "Unable to browse the network. The network is not present or not
been started". The laptop contains Windows XP connecting to a Windows 2000
server.

Anyone have any ideas as to what may have happened? Any help is
appreciated.

Train the user to not pull out the network cable before logging off. My
guess is that the problem has probably fixed itself by now. If it happens
again, try to connect to the drive using unc in the run box which will
bypass using the browse list/My Network Places. --- Steve
