Corrupted DNS server

We are FINALLY upgrading to Active Directory from an NT4.0
network. We pulled the NT4 PDC and replaced with a newer
model server. Domain synced before pulling. New PDC server
has same name as old but new IP address. Already had a W2K
server (member) running DNS. After PDC swap, DNS server
will not join the domain. Shows in server manager "greyed
out". Get netlogon service failure on startup(eventlog)
Tried removing and re-joining domain. No luck. Finally
come to conclusion that the server may be corrupted? Want
to remove DNS service from W2K server, then try to re-join
and re-add DNS service. Cannot figure out how to remove
DNS service. Any suggestions to repair, am I totally off
base?
