How bad is the problem with both Cordless phones, 802.11 B/G equipment and
Microwave ovens sharing 2.4GHz spectrum? What actually happens when
interference is detected? Static on phone, slower internet connections? As
long as the coordless phone unit is not stationed next to the
router/wireless hub should you be ok??? Would like to hear peoples
experiences.

Thanks!

Not sure about the Microwave Oven...but it's not a matter of the phone
being near the WAP/computers. It's a matter of the frequencies.
Both the WAP and 2.4GHZ phones use different channels (about 11) that
are slightly off from 2.4GHZ. If your phone decides to use the same
channel (or an adjacent one?), you will get interference. The
solution is to fix the phone and the WAP on two channels that are as
far away from each other as possible, if you are even able to fix the
channels (depends on the hardware).

Symptoms of interference: internet access gets slow or stops. You'll
know, believe me.

I haven't had any trouble with the microwave but the I lose my connection
whenever some is talking on the wireless phone. We're considering getting a
new phone but so far haven't pulled the trigger.

Have you tried fixing the channel that the phone uses and moving the
WAP to another one?

I had had no issues with a 2.4GHz phone and a 2 wireless lans in the same house.

The phone did start to drop out when I am right beside an accesspoint or
computer, but it would usually change channel and come right after a few seconds
of that. I dont use the landline anymore so havent tried it recently.

I haven't had any problems with interference. I can't explain why the
microwave (about 25 feet away from the AP) doesn't interfere.

As for the phone, I think it's because my phones are DSS (Digital Spread
Spectrum). The phones "channel-hop" at a high rate of speed. The theory is
that they don't stay on any one channel long enough for interference to be a
problem. For what it's worth, they're vTech phones.

I have been on the phone while using my laptop (in my lap, no less) with no
apparent ill effects.

Hit deja.com and search on this topic.

If the phone is a good 2.4 ghz spread spectrum phone, it takes all the
channels and bumps your wireless lan off. There are lots of good 2.4
ghz phones out there that will cause you no problems.
