cooperation between connection tracking and traffic shaping in 2.4

To define cooperation between iptables and traffic shaping
in 2.6, I was advises to use MARK and CONNMARK in 2.6.

But 2.4 doesn't seem to have CONNMARK. What is advisable
method of applyting qos rule to subtraffic defined by netfilter ?

Trying to solve this, I added to the sip conntrack module the code
that creates the corresponding QoS rule (via netlink) when
conntrack detects the port of the voice traffic. But I'm looking
for more generic, protocol-independent solution.

You can add CONNMARK support to a 2.4 kernel with the patch-o-matic-ng
up to patch-o-matic-ng-20050918. However this version is rather old, so
it may have bugs.
