Continuously Rebooting following LAN set up

I have just had our 2 family PCs set up as a LAN.
The new PC operates with Windows XP home edition and the
older PC runs Windows 98 second edition. The network
cards were installed several weeks ago, and all was ok.

However, on the weekend the wireless router was set up,
and now the older PC keeps rebooting continuously.
(The router is d-link DI-624+ and DWL-G520+ ). The
installation was made by a technically minded friend, but
unfortunately he is away on a weel earned holiday.

I sourced an article from Mircosoft support - 148919,
about this subject, but the win.com line did not appear
in the edit autoexec.bat check.

I am fresh out of ideas.
I really hope someone out these can help.

My sincere thanks
Mark

How far does it get before rebooting?

Have you tried booting in safe mode? (Hold down the CTRL key while
windows starts up)

Also try step by step confirmation (from the same menu as safe mode)
and see if that tells you anything.

My apologies for the belated reply and the lack of clarity
in my original message.

What happens is everytime you go through the normal shut
down procedure, (and just when you think the PC is about
to turn itself off), it reboots itself back to life and
and goes through the normal opening process.

As I mentioned before, this was not an issue prior to the
installation of the router for the LAN.

I hope you can help.
Mark

Maybe you can try this to get a poweroff.
