Usually when they send out a dsl modem it comes with a phone cord that they
tell you to use, it may have better shielding then the normal line. You
could be picking up noise on the longer phone cable. DOes the phone cable
cross any power wires in the attic or anything. If possible put back on a
different phone line and check it out
