Considering moving from Plusnet to Sky

Wondering if I'm about to do the right thing?

All I really want is to save some money per month. I pay £14.99/month now
for Plusnet and that is with an 8Gb monthly download limit. I seem to
regularly go over that limit (not by much but enough to sometimes add a
fiver on to the end of that monthly fee)

I can get Sky Broadband for a tenner a month and that is unlimited (I know
they say unlimited but I'm sure they're not going to complain about me using
between 10-20Gb per month on that option - or are they?)

I don't really need the "extra" features I get as standard with plusnet -
web space for example. I do use usenet but I can get this elsewhere. One
thing I'll miss is a static ip as I do connect to my home PC from work but I
can work around this as well.

Nice to get a new Netgear router with the deal (I already have one but its
an older bulkier version 1 model DG834G) and who knows I might even get a
slight speed increase - not sure about that one though? I currently get
around 3.5mb and 448k upload - not sure if it'll be any better as Sky will
be using different equipment in the exchange (LLU) ?

Can anyone advise? I'm sure a few people here have gone through the same or
similar changes?

One final note, wow - Plusnet really do try hard to keep you - seemed to
take ages and a few phone calls and messages just to get my MAC key.

Thanks
Andy

Have been on Sky for a month or so now, excellent service, streaming video
works far better than it ever did on my so called 10Mb service from Virgin
and now get 13Mb from sky. I did not need a MAC code obviously, but my
parents moved to Sky from Plusnet a few days before me and they have had no
problems, then again they never had a problem with Plusnet either they only
moved because the overall package price as so much cheaper.

I moved from Plusnet to Sky nearly a year ago - the quality of the
connection has been excellent - no problems there. However I would
caution you about their customer service - it is abysmal - I really
had a problem convincing them that the modem/router was faulty,
eventually got it sorted - in fact a plus point about their customer
service is that I now have two spare modem/routers !!

Overall I would suggest you go for the change - I cerainly have no
regrets.

The above information (plus other worrying things about Sky) has been
reported many times in the newsgroup.
The other main problem, apparently, is actually getting connected - this can
take weeks.
Just reporting what others have said. No axe to grind myself.
Suggest you have a good look through relevant posts on this newsgroup before
you make your mind up, and/or have a look at some ISP customer satisfaction
reviews on sites like www.thinkbroadband.com

George

Unless you know this already, the supplied router will be hard coded to
with Sky only, although there are hacks to unlock this. My
mother-in-law is considering this add on to her Sky after Orange
wouldn't honour an activation code I have for a year's broadband

I can easily to 20Gb a month and they've never complained...
