Connection Speed Drops on HP Laptop

I have an HP laptop and a Linksys 802/11g router. When I first connect, the
speed is 54. After a short time the speed drops to 1.

I have a Dell laptop and the speed may drop to 35, but it always performs
well.

I have sent the HP back and they said they repaired it--did not say what
action was taken. I get exactly the same result. The result will be the
same even if I am within three feet of the router.

Thanks, Norm

Hi
Try the Laptop somewhere else to rule out an unusual compatibity problem
between your Wireless Router and the Wireless card in the HP. Or and, borrow
a Wireless PCMCIA card disable the current card and see how it works.
Pending on the outcome you might be able the pinpoint the source of the
trouble.

I have the same setup (HP and Linksys router) and had to update the flash on
the router to get it working right.

You may want to check to see what version you have.

I have an 802/11b PCMCIA card. I can try that to see if it is stable.
