Connection sharing query new pc replacing old

Hi,
I recently built a new pc which is to be the main pc in a shared set up of
two pcs.
Old (number 1 pc) is in another room and connected to the router as is New
(number 1 pc).
I don't seem to be able to override the old pc wanting to be the lead number
one pc!
How do I go about establishing the new pc as the main network pc? any
deas- -my networking skills a pretty C"*^P. tia.

You need to find out what the new comps IP is and substitute for the old
comps IP in the routers starting IP address,usually in the first opening
page of its config.

What router is it?

What's a 'lead PC'?

My PC's are all just PC's on a network, they all just live side by
side.

Its a netgeat dg834.
Would it be simpler to just delete all the old setings as I am not sure how
to get the IP.
I actually just changed ISP so could that have an effect? sorry for my
newbie questions

What do you mean by "lead number one pc"? In a normal network there's no
such thing. What software are you running on the old PC?

What do you mean by "Main PC"? If a PC is on the network, that's it -
it's done!

I wonder whether the OP has Internet Connection sharing enabled, its
DHCP server would conflict with the server in the router.
