Hello all ,

We are accessing samba server( Installed on Linux servers) from windows
workstations. While I am able to browse the samba folders from XP / 2000
workstations I am not able to do the same from 98 machine . Can anyone
explain how to access the samba from 98 SE version .

The machines are having static ip viz like 10.131.1.x subnet 255.255.255.0

Thanks in advance

rgds

Sounds like you are connecting to the xp machines via port 445
without the need for netbios. If you want to connect to/from win9x you
will need to enable access through ports 137-139 which may be blocked
by whatever firewall you may be using.

seem to recal you had to enable plain text passwords

Enable plain-text passwords :

Add the registry entry
EnablePlainTextPassword (reg Dword) 1

in the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\VxD\Vnetsup
