Connection to router keeps dropping out

The connection with my wireless Vigo 2600 Gi router keeps dropping out. The
icon in the systray goes from the PC with 3 ripples spreading out to the one
with a red cross. If I reboot (the PC) it comes back. When the connection
drops on my PC, my son next door stays connected with no problems, so the
problem appears to be with my PC. Running XP SP2.

Are you using WPA-PSK encryption on your wireless link?

There is a potential issue with some combinations of operating systems
and wireless routers to lose key-sync, which means the connection is
dropped as one of them doesn't have the right encryption key.

Try this: next time your connection drops out, go to Network
Connections > Wireless Network Connection; right-click the icon, and
select 'Disable'. When it reports it is disabled, right-click it again
and select 'Enable'. It will then pick up the correct encryption key.

There is a Registry fix, should this be the problem.

WPA/PSK is set, however only as of a few weeks ago, and this has been going
on months, but will give this a go.

The next time it happened I had to rack my brains to remember what you'd
said, but fortunately remembered whilst it was still down. When I said
diable it DIDN'T say it WAS disabled. I then enabled it.
Hasn't happened since, but then it can happen a dozen times in half an hour
then go fo 6 hours OK.
