Connection with pppd, but no traffic

My ADSL connection to my ISP is producing no newsgroup updates. For
example, this group and comp.os.linux.misc. are completely empty.

So I tried another ISP where I have a dialup account only. I installed the
Linuxant driver, and am able to connect to the server, but can't get any
traffic. The only thing that I can ping is the ADSL router. Under Windows,
I would say that the traffic is still being sent to the router, but that
doesn't seem to be right either. It used to work.

Where should I start looking? Using Mandriva 2005 LE.
