Connection only works with SSID broadcasting

After installing the latest driver upgrade for my DWL-650+ network
card I lost the ability to connect to my router, DI-714P+, unless I
have the SSID set to broadcast. I have tried uninstalling the driver
and going back to the old one without success.

Any ideas on the cause and remedy are appreciated.

Try entering the network parameters in Device Manager under the Advanced
properties of the NIC, even if using WZC which should not require this
step. I routinely do this as a solution to problems with SSID and WEP.

In addition to the previous, also configure the connection to use only
the SSID as the preferred network, removing any other networks from the
selection, and check the box Connect only to Preferred Networks.

I am again able to connect to my router when it is not broadcasting
its SSID.

While I had tried removing the newest driver and replacing it with the
previous version I had not tried a version of the driver that is two
iterations old. I installed that one and I am able to connect again.

I suspect that in the router manufacturer's attempt to have their
driver certified they removed the ability to connect to a router that
is not broadcasting the SSID. This seems to be more in line with the
XP SP1 WZC functionality.

Anyway, I will try your suggestions and thanks for the feedback.
