Connection keeps dropping every minute

My wireless LAN connection drops every minute for a few seconds. I know it
has something to do with XP's Wireless Zero Configuration. When I disable
that service, all works well, but then I'm unable to reconnect when I start
up my PC the next time.

I allready installed SP1 and the rollover-patch, but the problem isn't
gone...

Any advice?

I have the same problem with a DLink DI-774. I have a pc hardwired also and
I get a bubble in the lower right corner briefly saying "network cable
disconnected", then is gone. It may happen several times per hour. Does it
have anything to do with the "Internet connection" in the connections
screen? I usethe Lan connection but can't get rid of the other one.

Disable Wifi Zero Config. Download manufacturers driver(s) and use that
only.

If you have a wireless client with Windows zero-config enabled *and* you are
using the DLink utility on the wifi client, then the Windows utility will
recycle the wireless network frequently. The fix for that is to open the
Windows wireless network icon (looks like two monitors suprerimposed). Click
the properties tab, and then click the "Wireless Networks" tab. Deselect
"Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings".

I'm not sure why this would affect the hardwired PC, but it is possible that
when the router disassociates with the wifi clients, it resets the bridged
Ethernet connections. I have a DI-774 connected via an ADSL modem. I have
found that if the telco's PPOE server drops the PPOE connection, quite often
the DI-774 begins thashing while trying to reconnect. The router appears to
disable wifi service at this point - the signal disappears, and the clients
cannot reconnect.

It's apparently a timing issue - the DI-774 times out too early waiting for
responses from the PPOE server, and reinitiates discovery. D-Link support
told me there's no way to control the timeout, so my solution is to disable
auto-reconnect and do it manually. I usually wait at least 60 seconds for
PPOE messaging to settle out on both ends.

I whish I could. When I disable WZC, all works well, but when I restart my
PC, the wireless connection won't come up; it seems it needs WCZ to connect
at startup.

What I've done is: I made a small batch-file that disables WZC and put that
in the Startup-folder (net stop wzcsvc) . Now WZC runs at startup long
enough to set up the connection, but is stopped right after that by the
batch-file... Works well ;-)

Do you have a config utility from DLink? If so, and if it is like the
AirXpert utility that comes with my DLink DWL-AG650 adapter, you should be
able to do the following:

1. Disable Windows zero config, reboot, and open the DLink config utility.

2. Select "Site Survey" tab.

3. If your router is broadcasting its SSID, then the SSID will be in the
"Available Network" pane.

a. Select it, and click"connect".

4. If SSID is not being broadcast, so it's not in "Available Network", then

a. Click "Add" button.

b. Fill out profile, including SSID (and WEP keys, if required). Click
"ok".

After step 3 or step 4, you should be connected to the router. If you
connected as in step 3, then a profile should have been automatically added.
Next time you reboot, the client will scan for all network SSIDs, and will
actively probe the most recently connected SSID. If the most recent
connection SSID is available, it connects automatically. If not, you have to
select from the "Available Networks" pane. This is less aggressive than
Windows zero config, which I think will automatically connect to the
strongest signal unless set otherwise, but if you are normally connecting to
a single network it works fine.
