Connecting a windows XP PC with a windows Me PC

I try to connect a new computer with windows XP to another
computer with windows Me with a networkcable (crossover)
but I can not write the ip adress on the Me computer. I
write the ip adress but when I check by writing run
winipcfg only 0000 turnes up as the ip adress even thow I
wrote 192 168 0 1
I dont understand, please help!
