I am new and looking for guidance. I have an existing desktop running
windows 98 that is connected to my printer and to my wireless router. I have
purchased a new laptop and it was delivered with windows XP sp1. I intalled
my printer drivers and were able to see me desktop and printer fine. I have
now upgraded to sp2 and my printer no longer works and I can not see the
other computer. I have turned off the firewall to see if that would help,
but that did not help.

The inference from the above is that you have not made any
configuration changes to the Win98 machine so logically this means you
can ignore that machine and have a look at the configuration changes
made by SP2 on your XP machine.

Rather than spend time and effort trying to troubleshoot the current
set up you may save yourself some trouble by simply running the
network set up wizard again on your XP machine.

As a footnote, I also have a Win98 machine on my network. The upgrade
to SP2 of the two XP machines on the network had no effect on it,
although I have yet to resolve the strange problem of it "seeing" only
two of the four available shares on the main "server" machine (one of
the XP boxes).

You could try connecting your laptop to the router using one of its ethernet
ports and see if a similar problem occurs. If not, then the problem could be
something to do with the wireless config.
