connecting to server vpn

Error message TCP/IP CP reported error 31: A device attached to the system
is not functioning.

whenever I try to connect to my home office VPN setup in windows outing and
Remote access I get
past username and password, authenticating then on registering, it displays
the above error and prompts to redial.
In the event log is shows that it aquired an IP via DHCP.
Server is 2003 sp2

Posting back the results of ipconfig /all on both server and client may
