I have a few windows 98 machines that need to connect to the wireless
network. I would like to run some sort of security like wep, or mac
filtering or something of the sort. My issue comes when I first boot up the
compute I cannot login right away because the wireless utility for connecting
to the WLAN is not running yet. So I login, it says it cannot contact the
domain I say OK and wait until the application starts and the card links up
with the access point. Then I log off and log back on to get network drives
to map. (done wit ha logon script). Is there a way to get the wireless
utility to run as a service so it runs behind the logon screen.

I have tried different wireless cards, but none of them connect when I have
security enabled.
Thanks in advance for your help.

When the driver starts is a function of the driver - there's nothing you can
change in Windows 98 to run the driver as a service unless it supports doing
so, in which case it almost surely will run as a service automatically. I
suspect that you may not have much luck finding a card that will meet your
needs.
