Connecting Linksys 802.11G WIFI router to normal Linksys router?

Hello,

If I missed some previous posting, some newbie link or some other apparent
site, then my apologies.

I just bought the Linksys 802.11G Wifi Router and want to "daisy chain" it
to the uplink port on my normal Linksys Router.

Will that work okay or do I need to disable some setting (i.e. like
master/slave found in hard drives)?

In other words, will the routers conflict against one another or work in
tandem?

My cable modem is also made by Linksys and I think their products are great
(worked right out of the box).

Thanks in advance to any replies.

-J

If you mean that you'll connect one of the LAN ports on the WRT to the
LAN uplink port on the router, then yes, that should work. However,
you'll need to disable the DHCP server on the WRT, and also set the IP
address on the WRT to be in the same subnet as the router.

Hi Lars,

Thanks for the fast reply.

Okay, so I connect a cable going from the uplink port of my normal Linksys
Router to one of the 4 ports on my 802.11G Linksys WIRELESS router?

I take it then, that the port labeled INTERNET on the Wireless router, is
then used to "daisy chain" to yet another router, in the future - if I
want.

It also looks like I do have do disable some settings (as you say) - the
DHCP settings on my Wireless Router.
Will disabling that affect the router's ability to offer WIFI access?

Or, is that separate from DHCP?

Excuse my ignorance on this matter.

Thanks again,

-J

Yes. However, I believe the uplink port and port one are connected, so
if you're using the uplink port, you can't use the first "straight" port
on the switch.

No, that would be the WAN port. That's where you plug in the cable
modem. If you need to connect another device, you'll have to connect the
uplink port on that device to any of the switch ports on either the
wireless router or the regular router.

Disabling the DHCP server on the wireless device should not interfere
with the WIFI at all. The DHCP server on the regular router will take
care of handing out IP addresses to all your (wired and wireless)
clients.

Nobody was born knowing this, we all learn by asking questions...
