Connecting a Equinox 1350 Phone causes ADSL to drop

** What I have
Phone line supplier: BT
ADSL ISP: Pipex (ADSL customer of 2 years without problem)
Router: Netgear DG834PN
Microfilters: XF-1e

** What's the problem?
I have just bought an Equinox 1350 twin-set but every time I plug it
into the microfilter, ADSL drops (Router is saying there's a problem
with LCP). If I unplug the phone, soon the router reconnects with no
problem.

The problem occurs without making a call - merely plugging the phone
in, causes the problem. The phone works perfectly OK, making &
receiving calls together with the function of Caller ID. I have
upgraded the microfilters to XF-1e. I have swapped microfilters,
unplugged everything else and even tried a different wire from phone to
microfilter.

The moment that the Equinox 1350 is either disconnected from the
microfilter or it is switched off at the wall then Broadband
successfully renegotiates and connects.

** What Tests have I performed?
1) Unplugged all plant and micro-filters, plugged in 1x XF-1e together
with Router - broadband still connects OK.

2) Connected Equinox 1350 into same microfilter as the Router -
broadband immediately drops. Rebooting router makes no improvement.

3) Replaced microfilter, no improvement.

4) Plugging Equinox 1350 into separate socket using 2nd XF-1e, no
improvement.

5) Connected both XF-1e in serial with the router plugged into the
first (closest to the wall) and the phone into the second (furthest
from the wall). No broadband connection.

6) Connected both XF-1e in serial just the router (to check that it
would still connect before testing with the phone as well). No
broadband connection. However if I plugged the phone into the second
XF-1e, there is a dial tone.

7) Wondering if the phone itself had its own filter built in I plugged
it straight into a wall socket and the router into another socket with
a XK-1e. No broadband connection. (Also lots of noise on phone line
so Equinox 1350 doesn't have an inbuilt filter).

** Notes
Its just that I have never had a problem before and indeed previously
was using the following phones all at the same time, whilst still using
ADSL:
* Uniden twin handset DECT answer-phone
* BT Synergy 2150
* BT Duet 700
* Sky digibox

The Equinox still causes problems even when all of the above are
unplugged. (The plan is just to use the Equinox, Duet & Sky digibox).

Whilst some forums call Netgear connection stats into disrupute, I am
currently getting the following:
ADSL Link - Downstream | Upstream
Connection Speed - 1152 kbps | 288 kbps
Line Attenuation - 63.5 db | 31.5 db
Noise Margin - 11.5 db | 20.0 db

Oh yes - one more thing that I forgot to mention...

In case the phone had a faulty - despite working perfectly otherwise, I
have tested it with a replacement:
* Base unit
* Power adapter
* Phone lead

looks like you have a 1M service outside the limits and this phone is a
design that introduces noise (from the phone or the PSU) to a level
that the filtering can't handle and hence it pushes a marginal
connection over the edge. Maybe its just a bad design.

The only thing I couldn't figure is why two filters in series with no
phone connected stopped the broadband working. Try a couple of decent
filters of a different type, the ADSLnation ones have more active
electronics AIUI and a dumber filter may be happier in series with
another.
