Earlier this month I posted an item seeking information on sharing 54k
dial up over a 54g network.

Jeff Liebermann provided me with some valuable info on the process.

I picked up a 3com888 off Ebay for $30 AUS (incl postage) which I
thought was a pretty good deal.

I now have the 3com888 up and running the configuration suggested by
Jeff, all going quite well, except for one problem.

When I'm using the laptop, the Desktop PC (network base) which is
10/100 hooked into the 3Comm will occasionally fire itself up as I
browse the net.

I've set the modem to manual connect/hangup.
The boot on LAN is deactivated in the desktop PC BIOS.
The desktop PC is not allowed to use the ISP in the modem setup.
And I have even software disabled the LAN on the PC.

Makes no difference, still fires up.

The PC is a Gigabyte P4 3 ghz with dual channel DDR.

Apart from pulling the plug on the PC, any ideas?

Also found that the 3com desktop LAN manager program doesn't seem to
work under XP - or any XP emulation.

Cheers

Rob
