Hi,
I recently purchased a new computer and thought I would create a
wireless home network for fun. I had no problem configuring my router
and wirelessly connecting my new computer (Window XP). So, I moved on
to adding the second computer which runs Windows ME to the network.
I purchased a USB Network Adapter and after some trial an error got to
the point where the the Windows ME machine could connect to the router
but could not connect to the internet.
Here is what I have tried so far on the Windows ME machine in my
attempts to connect to the internet
- I can ping the IP address of the router from the ms-dos prompt
successfully but not IE
- I can ping the IP address of yahoo.com from the ms-dos prompt
successfully but not IE
- I can't ping the FQDN from the ms-dos prompt
- I have tried disabling my firewall temporarily on Windows ME machine
but doesn't help
- I have tried disabling my network security temporarily but that
doesn't help
- I have called Linksys tech support (lol)
- I followed the advice of another posting on this site "cannot access
to internet" and downloaded and run LSPfix.exe with no luck ... so, I
tried w2fix.exe and then winsockfix.exe which also did not help
- I have checked that I only have winsock*, wsock*, w2s* files in
C:/Windows or C:/Windows/System
- I have verified I have TCP/IP for Dial-Up networking protocol on my
Windows ME machine
I'm at the point where I think I may have to reinstall Dial-Up
Networking but with my luck that won't help either. I'm totally
frustrating with no idea what to do next and I don't look forward to
calling tech support ... please HELP!
thx
Mary Ann
