Hi group,
When I connect my home machine (Vista Ultimate) to my company's VPN, I use
the built-in Windows VPN connection wizard, no third party VPN software or
anything, and authenticate against the domain at work. When I connect, I am
able to see my local network at home still, but I am not able to reach any
addresses outside of my network, i.e. a Web site. I can still resolve
Internet names without problem, though. It seems that my gateway gets
changed or something, but this goes beyond the scope of my knowledge. My
network is setup as so:
\\RAY 192.168.0.72 My home machine
\\DC 192.168.0.13 Home DNS server with forwarders setup to ISP's DNS
servers
\ROUTER 192.168.0.2 Standard homestyle router - this is my normal gateway
The network that I connect to at work is 10.*.*.*, if that matters.
I see that in the settings for my VPN connection, I can specify a DNS server
to use if I want to. This setting doesn't seem to be relevant, though,
since I can still resolve host names with my home DNS server while connected
to the VPN (and they're not cached on my machine). When I tracert to
something like
www.ibm.com when my VPN connection is connected, the host
name resolve fine, but the trace just gives me 30 timeouts. When the
connection is NOT connected, it traces as expected, starting at 192.168.0.2
and eventually getting to 129.42.58.212 (
www.ibm.com).
Thank you,
Ray at work
