When I use connect to open a socket to an address which is down, it takes 3
minutes for the request to time out. Is there a way to set the connect
timeout value. I have searched all of the socket man files in man3 and man7.
Any suggestions.

Thanks in advance for any iany info.

Have a look in tweaking the values at runtime in /proc/sys/net/ipv4/

'sysctl' and 'ipv4' is the bit you want to look at.
