how connect my firewall to router

Please I've a question

I've to connect my linux firewall with my adsl router. I've plenty of public
IP and I've assigned one of them to the network interface to connect to
router with a cross wire. I can't understand how my firewall can receive
traffic from router to any of my public IP.
Please help me

is it a router, or just a modem? i am assuming it is a router unless
you tell me otherwise, but there is a big difference, so make sure!

you probably don't need to use a cross-over cable to the router. plug
your firewall directly into the router with a regular cable. the
internal interface on the router needs an IP address from your public
address range, and the firewall interface needs another one. make
sure you enter the correct subnet masks.
