I believe there's a 3rd party tool called Netswitcher that can do this. But
you will still need to be an admin to join the domain. Since you are admin,
and when you disjoin your machine, your machine account still exists. By
default a domain user account can add up to 10 machines to an AD domain. I
don't understand 'removing it from DNS' unless you mean from AD? I wouldn't
see needing that to be done.
Otherwise, what you're doing is the best bet, unless when you take it home,
just long on locally instead of disjoining it. You can still logon with
cached credentials. If you have any problems, then just logon locally. Put
your My Doc folder on the C drive so you can access it whether you log on
locally or with the domain account.
As for changing the network settings, since you have DHCP at home and at
work, I would just keep it that way. When you are home, it will acquire an
IP from your router.
