How to connect a bridge to a (ADSL) modem?

In my SuSE 9.1 server I have two ethernet cards and one ADSL modem
(Fritz!card DSL with CAPI driver will show up as ppp0). I
have set up a bridge with the ethernet interfaces and assigned the
network address 192.168.0.1 to the bridge. Seems to work fine in that I
can access the bridge from the LAN. How can I set the default gateway
for the bridge to the ADSL modem with the address 192.168.99.1 resp.
192.168.9.99 (PtP) so that I can connect to the internet from my LAN
computers thru the ADSL modem?

set your suse server the default-gateway on the clients in the lan and
add a default-route on your server on your adsl-modem

Bernd,

perhaps I did not make it clear: All three devices are on the same box.
The ADSL Modem is a card which shows up as a modem (ppp0), both
ethernet cards serve the same subnet, one is a 100BaseT and the other a
10Base2 card. So only one default gateway is possible, which is set
using YAST. However, as soon as the bridge is installed, die default
gateway disappears and I did not find a method to set it again.

That's probably one design-error...

that's mostly try - in any case.

A bridge itself does not have any IP-Adress and therefore
there is no way to put a route on it, not even a default
one.

Why do you want that setup?
The only reason I can think is that you may want to access
your internet-provider from the second PC with another set
of username/password.

Sorry, that's by purpose and exactly what are bridges designed for (one
of others)

Correct, but see next item.

Wrong. According to the docu and in practise, you can assign a network
address to a bridge once it is up.

It has some advantage in operating and managing a network with Windows
clients.

Thanks, but where is a proposal or hint?

I'm sure that it can be done by setting up the servers network
(equipment) tables. Since I haven't done this for years, I have to
learn it again from sratch and I know that's cumbersome. I just wanted
to participate from others experience and knowledge.

You can assign an ip to a bridge for administrative purposes, but the
bridge
itself don't use ip addresses or default gateway because both sides belong
to the same network. A router/gateway will however use a default gateway
because here you will connect two (or more) different networks.

You only have to make shure, that in the SuSE version of the firewall
the name of the bridge is added to the local interfaces.

Thanks everybody involved in that thread.
