How to connect 2 home PCs ?

I have a Win Me. I have cable connection.

I am NOT technical.

I have 2 questions

1. I bought a small Netgear Ethernet hub. Since it is over a year I
do not have support for it.

How can I connect 2 Pcs ?


2. My OE emails are MOST important.
Will I able to access all my OE emails in both PC from any PC ?
Can I use the both PC's as a back up each other ? for all my OE mails
in case one of them dies.
How can I achieve this ?

i'll try to bear that in mind :-)

Before I answer that.. Something you may not realise here - You may
connect the 2 PCs together using the hub, however you may not connect
the cable modem to the hub - a hub is not a router!

the cable modem *must* be connected to one of the PCs.. This means that
only 1 of the PCs may have direct internet access. (Unless you ditch the
hub and buy a Router)

If your Cable modem only has an ethernet connection, then this will need
2 Network cards in one of the PCs.. Although, if you can connect the
cable modem with USB, then use that.

it IS possible to use the internet connection simultaneously on both PCs
with Internet Connection Sharing (ICS). WinME has it's own "ICS"
software built in, which should work fine for what you need.

do you mean accessing the emails on your PC from any computer in the
world? That really doesn't sound like a good idea to me.. if you must
do that, find yourself a webmail account or some other online mailbox

If the one that has the internet connection dies, then, no, you'll still
need to manually move the internet connection over to the other PC.
