Confusion over DNS resolution

Hi all,

This is probably something related to my previous post,
but I just want some clarity if possible.
I have brand new install of 2003. This is connected to
a very basic 4-port hub and a cable modem via USB.
I have assigned a static IP of 192.168.0.1 and set it to
point to itself for the DNS.

Full machine name is domainroot.domain.local

The following are all done on the server:
If I ping domainroot it gets resolved to 192.168.0.1
If I ping domain.local or domainroot.domain.local it gets
resolved to 81.52.XXX.XXX which is the IP assigned by the
cable modem.

I am presuming that when I use domainroot it's just going
via NETBIOS. The IP from the cable modem does get listed
in my DNS.

Can anyone explain why the Cable Modem IP address is being
returned?

Gary

Try this.
In Network Connections properties click and 'Advance' menu and
select 'Advanced Settings'.
Under adapter bindings check which is at the top.
Your Local Area Netwrok Card should be at the top,
if not move it at the top.
