I was quite surprised when I disconnected my computer from the net &
unplugged the card only to find that the other computer was still surfing
quite happily ;-)
If I didn't feel so guilty I could use their bandwidth, but I will have to
track them down & warn them that they are open (no security) to everyone
within range. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I'm not an expert but I can give you a quick answer. You are picking
up a neighbor's signal. It's happening more and more. When I first
got our network, we were alone in the neighborhood (two years ago).
Now when my daughter comes home there are usually two other wireless
AP (access points) trying to get her notebook's attention.
