Confused About "Sharing" Folders

I'm a little confused about the meaning of the term 'network share' as it
applies to folders.

I think I understand correctly that a network share is a folder on my
computer that other computers on my network can see and access.

[Yes, the term also includes devices on the network that all can share -
like a printer - but I'm asking specifically about folders.]

What I'm not sure about: If I 'share' a folder on the network, does that
mean that other user accounts on my computer can also access the folder?

I'm asking because I want to share the Household Expenses folder on my
computer with my wife's computer, but I wouldn't want to share this folder
with my kids who have user accounts on my or my wife's computer.

Now let's say I get my kids their own computer. Can I share the Household
Expenses folder on my computer with my wife's computer but /not/ with my
kids' computer?

Thanks for your help.

Daddy

You don't share "to computers"
You share "to User Accounts",...what machine they are using at the time of
the access is irrelevant.

Shares are totally irrelevant to users who are physically sitting at the
same machine that the files/folders exist on. File System Permissions are
what pertain the them, not the Share Permissions.

Terrific! That explains it all, succinctly. Thanks.
