confused looking for BB

I am currently with Freeserve, on Home Highway, and would like to upgrade to
Broad Band.

If I stay with freeserve, it is likely that I would have to pay ££'s to BT
to take out the HH box, (I have had HH for over three years, so no penalty
for short term).

So its looks as if BT broadband or BT Openworld BB are the best options.

Both BTBB and BT Openworld appear to upgrade for free, with BT wanting £27
for internet access only, and openworld wanting £30 for ISP access.
My question is....
If I go to BTopenworld for £30 a month, do I have to pay some ££'s to BT for
'BB' line rental as well.
When I speak to BT sales all they want to do is sell me their broadband
access, with no ISP or pop e mail, which is something I could do with as
well as the web space.

Sorry for the rambling, but I don't want to go ahead and the have expensive
regrets.

Cheers,
Peter H

If by best, you mean it saves you the £50 conversion fee, then yes, but read
below.

Sounds about right, I didn't check their current charges.

No.

BUT you could go to someone else, like Zen, Plusnet, Nildram etc. Pay the
£50 HH->ADSL conversion fee, and save money every month.

For example http://www.plus.net/info2/residential/index.html would save you
£5 a month (or £60 PA) if you were going to pay £30 and gives you a modem I
believe. I can testify that they do offer HH->ADSL conversion, the only
extra charge should be the £50 conversion fee on you telephone bill (but
plusnet arrange it for you).

I'm not connected with plusnet other than being a customer. As I said,
checkout Zen and Nildram too, amongst others.

Jc.

Several ISPs will offer a "managed conversion", but as for a broadband
ISP, I think the general recommendation from more experienced users would
go along the lines of "if the name starts with BT, avoid like the plague"
