Read several posts and didn't see my unique problem.

I have a conflict with the RoadRunner and my Ethernet cards. I had two in
use. Had to disable one or the RoadRunner wouldn't work.

The installer said no problem. Just pick up a hub and use the only one
card. I did today and the hub and RoadRunner works just fine. The problem
is neither computer will see each other. I've tried static IP's and auto
IP's and everything I can think of but it just ain't working. I changed the
crossover cord to straight through. I have disabled all the virus guards
and firewalls thinking that was the problem to no avail.

This machine is an XP pro and the other is Win98. Any ideas short of a
sledge hammer to get them talking to each other again?

Glenn

I'm sorry, Glenn, but I'm not sure that I understand your setup. Are
both computers and the cable modem connected to the hub? If so, I see
two ways to get everything working:

1. Replace the hub with a broadband router, which can share the
RoadRunner connection between both computers.

2. Keep the hub, get a second IP address from RoadRunner for the other
computer, un-bind file and printer sharing from TCP/IP, and install
the IPX/SPX protocol for file and printer sharing. I've written a web
page showing how to do it:

Windows XP Network Protocols
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/..._protocols.htm

There are two reasons to use IPX/SPX instead of TCP/IP for file
sharing in this setup:

2a. If RoadRunner assigns IP addresses in different subnets to your
computers, it isn't possible for them to communicate with each other
using TCP/IP.

2b. Since your computers connect directly to the Internet through the
cable or DSL modem, they receive public IP addresses that are
accessible by everyone on the Internet. Using TCP/IP for file sharing
could let other people access your shared files.
